TikTok Getting Claims From FCC

TikTok Getting Claims From FCC

TikTok has long been discussed as one of the most dangerous apps for mobile devices. It is still unclear how much data is collected through the platform. Recently, a commissioner from the Federal Communications Commission made an appeal to Apple and Google to delete TikTok from their App Stores. The response deadline was July 8, but we don’t know what to expect after.

Previously, TikTok was under the threat of getting banned from the US in 2020, as the former presidential administration had seen it as a way for the Chinese government to gather the information of American users. Even though it didn’t get far, Biden’s associates still decided to put stricter rules for reviews about the apps coming from foreign countries.

In his letter, FCC commissioner Brendan Carr stated that TikTok can be a national threat to the US and should be removed by Google and Apple. Through leaked reports, the media found out that the information of the US users is filtered by Chinese moderators. The details of data, history, and marked videos are being thoroughly saved, and it is unknown how it can be used by foreign companies.

Brendan Carr insists that TikTok overrides the guidelines of the App Store and thus should be taken under review. Sensitive data of the US users must go to local companies. Unchecked access to personal information can harm people that share their thoughts on the platform.

TikTok has released a statement to these claims, saying that the platform is working towards improvement in saving and protecting the data of its users. The reputation of the app cannot be called the best, but the company wants the users to trust their project. Apple and Google are yet to make their response.

Do you think these platforms should ban TikTok? What measures can we see regarding the issue? Please, share your opinion with us in the comments below.
