Instagram Introduces a New ‘Take a Break’ Feature to Users

We all know how easy it is to get lost scrolling through endless posts on Instagram. This Friday, the company announced that they started to introduce a new ‘Take a Break’ feature for all users around the world.

Instagram already has the Daily Limit feature that gives users an opportunity to set a certain limit in minutes or hours on how much time they want to spend using the app. The additional ‘Take a Break’ feature will allow Instagram users to enable reminders that will appear after a certain time to tell you that you need to have some time off the app. The company worked in partnership with the ‘We the Young’ platform to spread more awareness regarding the topic of social media.

The new feature is optional and all users will be able to access it. According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, users can choose the time intervals, such as 10, 20, and 30 minutes, at which the ‘Take a Break’ will appear. After being tested for several months in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, this new feature will now roll out to different countries.

Even though it was mentioned that the feature is optional, to make sure that users are aware of its existence, they will get a reminder after they have been using the app for a set amount of time along with a suggestion to set their own reminders.

Last year, Meta was criticized for the effect of Instagram use on the mental health of young people. After such critical remarks, the company started working on new features and quickly began testing the ‘Take a Break’ feature. The new function is already available for users that have iOS devices and it will appear for Android devices in the upcoming weeks.

What do you think about this new feature? Will you use it to make sure you take breaks on Instagram? Please, tell us what you think about it in the comments below.
