Instagram Tests Paid Subscription

The meta-owned social network is working hard to produce paid membership. The new service is called “Subscriptions” and it may help creators to gain money for content. Users will be able to receive unique content from their favorite authors for paying a monthly subscription.

Followers who paid subscription will receive access to the Paid Stories, which you may see now with the purple frame around. Subscribers will also be visible to everyone. They will have the purple symbol near their name. This way, content creators will be able to see everyone who paid for subscriptions. For now, this service is available in the USA. There are ten content creators who take part in the beta testing. However, Instagram is planning to release new options to other creators and users around the world. Subscription will become available during the next few months. For now, it is not clear which countries will be able to use the service before others. Yet, the US is already there.

Every creator of the content can choose the price for their work. A subscription plan may cost $1 and up to $100 for a month. There are eight different amounts. It looks like Instagram does not plan to take any percentage for subscription at least until 2023, so creators could gain the money for the services they provide. After that, they can decide how much money the platform can take.

According to the Instagram chief, Adam Mosseri, it is important for the company to make sure that high-quality content is awarded and receives the deserved payment. He said that Instagram wants to help creators to receive payments for the work they do. Mosseri noted that they are doing everything they can to attract more content creators to the platform and make sure that they will not leave Instagram for their competitors like TikTok.
