Prices for Some Series X/S Xbox Games Will Increase to $70
Microsoft recently revealed that some of the very first Xbox games would go up to $70 in 2023. Firstly, this will affect games for the Xbox Series X/S, which will become more expensive by $10 for US residents. These games include Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and Starfield. The rise in prices for different regions will be different.
A Microsoft spokesperson, in a statement to IGN, explained this pricing policy by the high technological complexity of the games, which requires a large resource for support. Also, he stated that absolutely all Xbox games would be available on the first day of the launch of the Game Pass.
In support of Microsoft's decision, it is worth noting that other large companies such as Take-Two Interactive, EA, and Sony charge $70 even for new-generation games. Therefore, the fact that Microsoft kept a certain price bar for so long speaks in favor of a loyal attitude toward the audience, as well as that the company does not consider games to be its main source of income. Sony in August of this year raised the price of the PlayStation 5, meanwhile, this did not affect US residents.
Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft, said back in October that the company intended not to raise prices for the Xbox in anticipation of the holidays, but noted that sooner or later this would have to be done. And most likely it would happen at the beginning of 2023.
The price increase could encourage users to try Game Pass as Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and Starfield will be available on PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass on day one. Such a purchase will be profitable, especially until Xbox has raised the cost of subscribing to their services.
