Roblox Outage: Not Because of Chipotle
The massively popular online multiplayer game Roblox experienced the longest outage in its entire game career. From October 28 to October 31, players were unable to log in to the system. According to a Twitter post, Roblox quickly responded to the problem and alerted players the team was working on fixing a system bug. Roblox is a publicly-traded game, and for many players, this event became more than just a nuisance. The official Roblox.com website was also offline, which meant that information and support were unavailable.
Why Was Roblox Down?
On Saturday, Roblox tweeted that it found the cause of the error but did not mention any details of what had happened. The following day, in a report to The Verge, the company confirmed the game hadn’t been down because of a hacker attack or other external intrusions. The team also apologized for the inconvenience and said that they were doing everything possible to restore the platform to welcome all players.
Roblox has a range of 40 million active users, among which more than 50 percent are children. The game’s popularity skyrocketed in 2020 when the pandemic started. Many fascinating events, unique items, and game mechanics attracted a huge audience to the platform.
Сhipotle Giveaway Is Not the Issue
Many players first thought it had been the recent Chipotle promotion, timed to the Halloween event in the game. Players associated the outage with a huge influx of people who wanted to be the first to receive unique items and free burritos on servers.
Chipotle makes $1 million in free burritos and offers access to new Halloween costumes and other exclusive items. However, Roblox quickly discovered that the issue had happened not due to the Chipotle promotion. What do you think about this situation? Why does it take so long for Roblox to restart the game?
