WhatsApp Tests New Features: Disappearing Messages and Easier Listening to Voice Notes

It seems that WhatsApp doesn’t plan to stop when it comes to its selection of features, as we continue getting news about new tests on a regular basis. The competition with Telegram certainly prompts app creators to become more creative and add features to keep things interesting.

Last month, WhatsApp beta users who have iOS devices spotted the new voice notes feature that allows them to listen to recordings even when they open another chat. This time, testing of this feature is performed for the desktop version of WhatsApp. According to WABetaInfo, there is also a media bar in the chat that allows users to control how the voice note is played and you can see how long the voice note is.

WABetaInfo also found hidden references to a new disappearing messages feature in Android beta 2.22.4.12. In the case of this feature, media won’t be displayed in the gallery of a device if a certain user enables disappearing messages. At the same time, there probably won’t be any way to prevent users from taking screenshots that contain such disappearing messages.

In addition to the mentioned features, there is another report from WABetaInfo. According to the obtained information, WhatsApp is currently in the process of testing its updated caption menu for sending media. The new data suggests that WhatsApp users will have an opportunity to add recipients when they send a media as well as upload it as a status. This feature was noticed by WABetaInfo for the first time in 2021, but it is still unclear when this functionality will become a proper part of the app. As it is being currently under development, it can be a while before users will be able to access it.
